Hoshi o Ou Kodomo (Chidren Who Chase Lost Voices)
This movie was simply fantastic, really, everthing I´ve seen from Makoto Shinkai has been amazing, and this is no exception.
I really like that this movie could be calm or upbeat, and then transition smoothly to an action scene, or a dramatic moment, and during all of that time, looking gorgeous as it possibly can. The scenery in Shinkai´s movies always leaves me in awe, not only because of the detail, but the colours are what really do the job for me. Also, the animation was outstanding as well, with the character design reminding me a bit of the Ghibli style.
As for the plot, I like how it transitions more and more from a real world, to a fantasy land, it really makes it much more interesting, and helps to ease you in to the world of Agartha. The themes of accepting loss and learning to cope with it were shown fairly well, though they were a bit too obvious at times, but still, I wouldn´t say I have any complaints with them, and the way they were integrated into the plot itself was great, in my opinion.
Other than that, I don´t have a lot more to say, it has recieved the critical acclaimed it deserved because it was a great movie! So, go watch it if you feel like it. c:
